UNITED STATES — The White House announced on Monday that President Obama will give his farewell address to the country on Tuesday, Jan. 10 in his hometown of Chicago. The speech will come just days before President-Elect Donald Trump will take the presidential oath of office.
“Since 2009, we’ve faced our fair share of challenges, and come through them stronger,” Obama said in a statement. “That’s because we have never let go of a belief that has guided us ever since our founding — our conviction that, together, we can change this country for the better. So I hope you’ll join me one last time. Because, for me, it’s always been about you.”
The speech is expected to begin around 7 p.m., and will probably be broadcast by most major television networks. 1600PennWatch will have coverage of the speech. Our full plans for the night will be announced at a later date.
